"Fields are nested too deeply"
(too old to reply)

Hi Brenda,

Have you tried pressing Alt + F9 to toggle the field codes to see if
there are several fields accidentally inserted into one field?

Word 97, using a locked template with text fields and spell checking
macro
When document is opened the message in the subject line keeps
appearing and
user cannot make modifications to the document. First appeared
after user
either ran the spell check macro or attempted to manually make a
change.
User has used this template for a long time without incident.
Have tried inserting document into a clean document, Opening
document as
copy, and Recover Text from Document. Recover text converts to RTF
and
results are not acceptable. Other options are unsuccessful at
allowing
modification. Any other ideas on how we can eliminate this error
message?
TIA!

Between a million clicks of "OK" I have been able to scroll through the
document with the mouse wheel and do not see any fields inserted within
fields that are evident. It is hard to do anything because the error
"Fields nested too deeply" keeps popping up. Have tried inserting into a
new document with no change and have opened by Recover Text but that does
not help because most of the document is in a table format.

This is a table with fields, obviously, but interestingly it is NOT
protected as I would have predicted. The document is 15 pages and the user
REALLY REALLY does not want to start over again. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I finally got this document to work by LINKING it to a new document. The
fields were lost but the data within them were retained, which is
sufficient. Thanks for the help.
